Grupo Cuero y Cajon
Nolan Warden recently released this interesting field recording of Afro-Cuban folkloric music, made while in Cuba last year.  The recording includes drumming influenced by Palo, Yesa, Yambu, and Makuta.

Agua de Cuba

Ah, Fransisco Aguabella!  This native of Cuba moved to the U.S. in 1957, and has been a powerful influence on American congueros and latin jazz players ever since. A very strong CD, "Agua de Cuba" is one of our favorites for 1999.

A lot of folks know that Giovanni Hidalgo is one of the greatest congueros, but few know about his solo albums.

his CD with Michael Camilo at right, released in 1996, is REALLY strong.
